I came across a series of unofficial posters for the 2012 London Olympic Games designed by University College Falmouth student Alan Clarke on the Creative Review blog which wrote “Sadly, the proposed posters aren't set to be part of London 2012's official communications program. If only…” The “if only” relates to the wide unhappiness about the official logo created brand design giant Wolff Olins at a reported cost of ₤400k. Comparisons like this underline the reality that excellent creativity for brand communication can be sourced from many places and for much lower fees than charged by the big creative agencies. Larger versions of Clarke’s posters can be seen here, and he doesn’t use the official logo shown below and described by many as a broken swastika or worse.
